The West Boca Diamonds Softball League is currently taking registrations for the Fall 2011 season which will begin sometime in August and run through early November.  We got our daughters involved in it for the first time this spring.  They had a blast learning and playing the game, made a bunch of new friends and, best of all, it is right in our backyard at South County Regional Park! 

My girls had never played softball prior to this season, so I was hesitant at first to register them, worried that they might be too far behind in the learning curve. But that wasn't the case at all.  All of the coaches and board members were very accommodating and helpful to all the kids, regardless of experience or ability.  And for our recreational soccer players out there, the Softball League tries to schedule their season around the soccer season so that our young athletes can have the opportunity of playing both sports.
 
Registration can be done online at www.westbocadiamonds.com.  The cost is $125 for the 8 year-old and under divisions, and $150 for the 9 year-old and older divisions, which cost a little more because they have umpired games.  They also have a multiple-child/sibling registration discount.  In addition to the information on their website, the league can be contacted with questions via e-mail at information@westbocadiamonds.com.  The league currently has 4 different age-based divisions that can accommodate children aged 4 to 16 years old, and they hope to expand the number of different age groups in the future.

I'm not affiliated with this league in any way other than as a parent whose daughters played in it this past season.  But I am a big proponent of getting kids involved in organized sports, as it gives them something to do besides sitting on a couch playing video games or just hanging out with their friends on street corners looking for trouble (and our community can only benefit from a little less of the latter!).
