There’s a lot of new retail activity in West Boca, especially along 441.
The Texas-based chain Golfsmith opened earlier this year in the newly divided space that once housed Albertson’s in Mission Bay. Aside from tons of golf equipment and a section for tennis, the store features an indoor driving range and a GolfTEC studio to help hone your stroke.
The long-awaited grand opening of Fresh Market in the rest of the old Albertson’s took place in early June. Gorgeous store, phenomenal food.
At the other end of Mission Bay, Hurricane Grill & Wings opened in the standalone building with a new outdoor patio facing Office Max.
On the other side of Glades, the electronics chain hhgregg from Indiana will open a huge store this summer in the old Linens ‘n Things space that has been vacant for years.
Across the street in the complex anchored by Home Depot, Wasabi Bowl has opened near Dominicks, featuring Asian takeout. And AT&T Mobile has opened a large corporate store in the space vacated by Blockbuster and Ben & Jerry’s. A Chipotle restaurant is also opening in this complex late this year -- a welcome tip from Linda Ayre in Cypress Bend.
Over in Shadowwood, Walgreens will shutter its long-time store next to the brand new Old Navy in the old Border’s space and will build a new store out in the parking lot so it can offer drive-through pharmacy service.
Heading east on Glades to Somerset Shops, there’s a recently opened Saito’s Japanese Steakhouse – the sixth in South Florida for this mini-chain. We also found two newish ethnic restaurants tucked away in the mall – Efe’s Bistro Fish & Grill House (Turkish cuisine) and a Colombian café called Rancheritos de Boca.
En route to our last stop in The Reserve, we spotted Face Values, the first venture into Florida from a Northeast discount beauty supply chain located in the Boca Greens mall. A bit further north on the right, we noted that Smokehouse Grill & Wingery will soon replace recently closed The Thirsty Turtle in the strip center anchored by CVS.
When we turned into The Reserve, we stumbled upon the grand opening of a store called 9Round. It’s a unique fitness franchise centered around boxing and kickboxing at nine different stations scattered throughout the store. It struck us as a bit out of place for The Reserve, but hey, the place was mobbed and the energy level palpable.
