Driveway & Sidewalk Campaign

by Alan Kellock

The HOA has suspended fines for dirty driveways and sidewalks through Sunday, January 8.

Please get your driveways and sidewalks pressure-cleaned and, if necessary, stained or painted by that date.

If you have a well and your well water is staining your driveway or sidewalk, a good remedy is to use Rust Aid, which is available at Home Depot etc.

The concrete on some driveways is worn out and also needs to be stained or painted. If yours is one of them, staining your driveway with a xylene-based stain is recommended, as paint on concrete tends to peel with time.

If your driveway currently has a painted surface and you want to switch to a stain, the paint needs to be sandblasted before staining.  For best results, stain a second time after the first coat dries.  You might also want to add a non-slip mix in the stain.

If you decide to stain your driveway, you may want to hire a professional rather than try to do it yourself, as staining is more complicated than painting.  There are three driveway specialists in the stain and paint business who happen to live in the Lakes:

Carl Trigona – 451-9523; carlt52@aol.com

Dick Dufour -- 702-3140; pstyle4u@aol.com

Richard Allen – 716-5026; riri3142@aol.com
